SHRM10 Wish List | HR Fishbowl

So I’m getting ready for SHRM’s 2010 Annual Conference and Expo which I am very much looking forward to. With conferences this big, having a plan and some goals is usually a good idea. Otherwise, you spend your time walking around trying to keep a panic attack at bay. I actually have a multicolored spreadsheet that I’m using to direct my time (seriously). But when it’s all said and done, this is what I hope to accomplish.

  • Collect as many free pens, sticky pads, beer cozies, and golf balls as I can
  • Relive the essence of my youth (care of Hall & Oates); I only wish I had my old pair of roller skates to wear to the show
  • Learn a thing or two from the press group I’ll be hanging with
  • Put more faces with names (and avatars)…strengthen some friendships
  • Leave with at least one new member for my “personal board of directors”
  • Get to know the SmartBrief on Workforce Advisory Board better
  • Spend more time with some of the HR pros I didn’t get a chance to mess around with at the last HRevolution
  • Contribute to the dissemination of meaningful information to those not fortunate enough to attend the conference
  • Find a couple of companies/people that I’d like to work with/for some day
  • Get more sleep than I usually do with a four year-old at home
  • TP the house of a certain someone living in San Diego who I dislike probably more than any person I’ve ever worked with
  • Inspire – in some small way – a bunch of Trench HR professionals to get more involved in and active with HR social media
  • Gain fewer than five pounds
  • Meet much of the SHRM leadership team and renew my faith that the preeminent association charged with advancing the profession of HR has its act together
  • Hear less grumbling about what is wrong with HR and more about what is right with it
  • Have a measured amount of fun

What have a I missed? What are you hoping to bring home with you (knowledge, experiences, goodies)?

By the way, if you’re planning on following along from home next week, make sure to sign up with SmartBrief for their daily roundup. I think it will be a good way to filter through the noise and pick out the nuggets. I’ve also put together a Twitter List of SD Conference Attendees for you to follow. And for those of you actually planning on being there – TweetMe or EmailMe…maybe we can shake hands or raise a glass.
