HR Fishbowl was developed primarily as a platform for debate and springs from the rapidly evolving role of social media in HR practice development. Charlie Judy believes HR’s effort to redefine itself has resulted in an “over-engineered” approach to caring and feeding for the workplace. He is concerned that the real value of HR has been diminished, not strengthened, as a result. Getting back to the basics of strong connections, good relationships, personal attention, and simplified processes are what he believes to be more important than anything the broader HR community is currently focused on.
Charlie is a dynamic Human Resources Executive with expertise developed globally in organizations recognized for their people-centric environments; he brings close to two decades of broad and progressive experience as a Strategic Business Advisor and HR Steward to external and internal clients; he is the Global Director of HR Strategic Development and Operations for Navigant Consulting, Inc. - a Chicago based public company (NCI) with more than 2,500 professionals throughout North America, Europe, and Asia who help their clients respond to industry and market factors that create uncertainty and corporate exposure. Charlie is responsible for optimizing the firm’s Human Capital function: delivering “world class” client service; enabling and supporting the firm’s strategic objectives; anticipating and responding to the evolving needs of the business; identifying, prioritizing, and implementing leading-edge people programs and next generation HR operations.
Charlie was formerly the Senior Vice President of Shared Services for TLC Vision Corporation a multi-national eye-care services company where he and his team were focused on providing world-class talent management, corporate governance, risk management, and technology infrastructure in support of the organization’s growing success. He began his career with Deloitte & Touche as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Thirteen years with the firm gave him a number of challenging and diverse experiences; his roles included an Audit Manager for a multi-national chemical and life sciences manufacturer, the Chief of Staff for the firm’s Chief HR Officer, a Senior HR Manager to a regional consulting practice which grew from 400 to 1,000 people during his tenure, and two long-term global assignments in Brussels, Belgium and Hyderabad, India in the financial, human resources, and off-shoring realms. He was instrumental in building Deloitte’s off-shoring practice as the Director of Talent Acquisition in India (his team hired 1,500 people during his assignment) and helped construct Deloitte’s internal executive recruiting function as the National Director of Partner Acquisition.
Charlie is a graduate of Tulane University’s A.B. Freeman School of Business and has been formally trained in HR by Cornell’s ILR School; he is a certified Senior Professional of Human Resources (SPHR). He is passionate about his family, Kids in the Middle, the National Fatherhood Initiative, upland hunting, and his German Wire Haired Pointer.
